Hi SBers,

As a side project I developed a web app which helps young people learn
multiplication in a visual way by drawing rectangles in color.

My young son and I were making a lot of rectangles on squared paper to
learn the times tables. This approach seems to lead naturally into
concepts like a(b+c) = ab+ac and prime numbers aswell, so I felt there
should be some interactive version of it somewhere. I googled around but
couldn't find any website that did this in a visual way, so I decided to do
a prototype for our own use 'in-house'.

After some iteration, this resulted in The Doctor X Amazing Griddable
Multiplication Contraption <http://treeblurb.com/doctorx/calc.html> :]

Its currently at MVP stage, so usable but not yet feature-rich. Works ok
on iPad, Android and modern desktop web browsers such as recent Chrome &
Firefox [ ie. not IE for now ]. Heres some
backgrounder<http://quantblog.wordpress.com/2012/06/05/kids-multiplication-visual-calculator-doctorx-times-tables>about
how the app idea came about.

Feedback from parents and educators has been positive - they seem to
immediately grok the idea, so the responses have been along the lines of
"lurrve it.. now can you add features W, X,Y, Z"

Anyway, my question is - how to monetize this in a way thats organic, fits
the demographic and allows me to set aside time to give it the ongoing
development love it deserves - so I can serve the needs of parents,
teachers and kids to learn real math in a fun way. I considered
crowd-funding via Kickstarter, com, but I hear thats US only.

My loose plan is to add some paid tutorials/worksheet 'ebooks' and roll out
to Android and iPad app stores. Im looking to do some guest posts on
education blogs/forums to help spread the word.

Ideas?

cheers,
