The clue is virus. All that needs to happen is for your email address to be in the addressbook of a person who owns an infected machine. The virus may, among other things, harvest addresses and share them with their little sicko buddies. 95% of the spam I get is because my mother's former PC machine was infected. I know it was from that machine because I gave her a special address to use when she sent me messages that no one else had. When that address began to receive spam (I owned a domain and gave her a unique address to use to mail me from it) I had the smoking gun. Unfortunately I had zero success retraining my Mom, so I gave up and bought her a Mac. No problems since, and i've /dev/null'd that address. She has another address she can use to reach me now, and so far it's been clean. And when she finally learned the virtues of BCC, she stopped sharing my address with all her other buddies and their potentially infected boxes, so now that address remains spam free. Basically, the instant your address is on another person's machine, you may consider that address at risk of falling into the hands of sickos like what you dug out. Trust no one...
