most EU countries will impose a customs duty on books and CDs imported from
a non-EU / EFTA country through post/shipping of about 5%, plus VAT.
VAT varies from country to country, but is usually between 15-20%. some
countries (UK) have a lower or zero VAT on books, but not CDs.
duty is imposed at the point of entry into the EU, and thus need not be in
the final destination country. much post comes in through the netherlands,
and the dutch customs are meticulous about checking packages, certainly
those marked amazon.com.
only about 50 euro worth can be imported duty free by shipping. fwiw only
about 150 euro can be imported duty free by airline passengers. so india's
customs duty for several products is now much less than the EU.

i found many people who had done that on various forums
(europe->usa...) and as you said zero duty....the other way round
seems unclear.
