Computer graveyards in Karachi/ Reba ki Diary: Karachi ki 'Computer
breaking industry'

Technological innovation has ushered forth an age of gadgets and a
race to get the latest, fastest, sleekest computer. This in turn has
reduced the life span PCs, which are routinely dumped at various
Asian/Third World countries. One such destination for these discarded
computers happens to be the industrial area of Sher Shah in Karachi,
where they are taken apart by laborers (some under-age), hired on a
daily wage, without any protective gear and unheedful of environmental
and health hazards of this hi-tech waste.

This article, by Reba Shahid for BBCUrdu.com, focuses on the computer
graveyards of SherShah, Karachi where computer are taken apart to
yield metals like silver, copper and gold used in the computer
circuits and other hardware components.
