Do so without delay. I also didn't do it for a long time assuming that it would take some time to setup. But with Tomato [1], the entire process of downloading, flashing and getting back to work took not more than 5 minutes. I found that it had copied over all my configuration (except port forwarding) from the old firmware on my GL v1.1.
