Crying snake in an open field is not as effective as doing so in a crowded market place. Population density and policing is a well understood problem. > >> 2. Do you really think policing with the army is a good idea? This is not about placing as many warm bodies as possible in street corners. The army is trained from the ground up for a very different role. The world armies are even now deathly scared of the street warfare roles they are increasingly asked to play. Traditional military combat troops are good at advancing under artillery fire and shooting up just about everything in their gun sights. Besides, they won't be very effective either. Down to the choice of their weapons standard troops are a bad idea. >From my limited knowledge even I know this: The INSAS rifle uses ammunition designed to maim rather than kill. The idea is to cause maximum morale damage on enemy forces by causing them to expend energy on caring for their wounded. The Special forces like NSG use sub-machine guns like the HK MP5 which are designed to kill rather than maim since a wounded terrorist is still dangerous and could set off a bomb, or kill a hostage. The INSAS is cheap to produce but will overheat after 10 rounds of continuous fire. Which is ok in traditional battlezones where battles can last days and you need to conserve ammo. A terrorist situation in a crowded city is the exact opposite. As another example, I couldn't believe that they were allowed to use the AGS-17 in Mumbai. - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AGS-17 This is where it should be used - - http://www.bharat-rakshak.com/LAND-FORCES/Army/Images/0003.jpg This is where it was used - http://img.breitbart.com/images/2008/12/1/081202055832.lks21x0i/CPS.OJP73.021208065536.photo04.photo.jpg I have no idea how many rounds were fired - but there is absolutely no way to be sure you are hitting a terrorist and not a civilian when using a high explosive fragmentation warhead like this. You would think the blokes directing the operation would know better. Well either they didn't or didn't care. I can't blame them too much since they were fighting with whatever they had on hand, however this should illustrate why the army is just not designed to be in civilian security situations. >> 3. Both the 1993 & 2006 Mumbai blasts were tracked back to the underworld and Dawood. There are many stories and books - see "Black Friday: The True Story of the Bombay Bomb Blasts" This is from today: http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/Dawood_directly_involved_in_Mumbai_attack_Russian_intel/articleshow/3856641.cms Please also read the findings of the judicial inquiries into the Mumbai blasts.
