Science stream or not, Udhay's point is well made. Sibal said in a statement
yesterday that there was only one person who fit the criterion, i.e.,
science stream student who secured 100% and wanted to to pursue B.Com
(Hons.) at SRCC. It is clearly grandstanding - it appears the College wants
to be the first to this ridiculous mark and clearly wants to exclude all
science students.

The bigger issue is that with greater objective questioning and far more lax
marking on the subjective questions, more students are above 95% than ever
before. Is it fair to keep marks obtained in the Boards as the sole basis
for determining admission? There is an interview, but it is fairly cursory.
We just don't seem to have a grip on the diverse skills and personality
traits that can make for a successful person in the future. And we simply
don't account for differing ages at which people find maturity. All in all,
the system is ridiculous. Colleges like St. Stephen's etc. are out of the
firing line even though they have cut offs as high as 99%.
