In late 1996 and the beginning of 1997, Gary Hawkins' Rife List experienced a disruptive influx of messages on the topic of Colloidal Silver (CS). Wanting to preserve that mailing list for its intended purpose but not wishing to stifle the ongoing interest in CS, Gary started a new listserve, [email protected] ... I joined the Silver List in early April of 1997, making my first foray into the realm of alternative health. I spent the next several months reading and asking questions, working toward beginning to do my own experiments. Adapting the designs and recipes that were current at the time, I made my first batch of CS with a home-built generator. After running the list for a year, Gary announced at the beginning of January, 1998, that he was going to shut it down. A number of us asked if he would be willing to transfer it to someone else, and I ended up being the lucky volunteer. <grin> In the 12 years since, I have had the privilege of helping to keep the list functioning as a place where CS can be studied and new people can discover what we have learned. I have tried to encourage a welcoming atmosphere, free of major influence from commercial interests. The result has been the development of a consensus opinion on the subject that sometimes differs from the popular view. It remains our mission to discern where marketing hype leaves off and reality begins, and what lessons there are to be learned from our experiences.
