Dear Silver List Folks, It's pretty obvious we need to give newcomers a chance to get started with as little trouble as possible. As I see it, the biggest obstacle to that is the confused mishmash of different generator designs and recipes to be found all over. No two of us are using exactly the same method, I'll bet!
I think we should devise two or three standard designs and recipes that cover all the basics, build or buy the equipment, run them, test the results and publish them in a FAQ and on the web. Every design and recipe should clearly specify *all* of the details that affect the results. And we should keep at least one of them simple enough for people to use "just to give it a try" with absolute minimum cost and complexity, if maybe a little less convenience. The key is enough of us trying each design and testing the results so we can be *sure* everything is reproduceable. Many of us will be able to test an alternative design or two with only slight modification to our existing equipment or recipe. We just need a few of us cooperating and some help from the new people as well. The point of it all is I would like someone like Caroline to be able to set up and run a home-built CS generator using one of a few standard designs and reasonably expect to get the concentration and particle size the directions predict. Let me know ON LIST (please!) what you think, and let's start kicking around ideas on how to proceed... Be well!
