Hi Ya'all,

One list member has sent me a sample of what they are buying as 500 ppm
CS. So I ran a study of the material and this is what I found.

The CS was as dark yellow with a strong Tyndall. When I diluted the
sample 50/1 in preparation of doing the spectrophotometer analysis, I
observed a strange phenomena.

Normally the yellow CS when dilute water it is clear. This material
remained quite yellow.
Being suspicious I placed drop on a piece of white paper along side a
drop of very
yellow CS of my manufacture. The drop of my CS dried with no color. The
other
sample had a bright yellow stain.

The ppm reading was 35 not 500!!!!! The yellow stain appears to be from
yellow food color.

Just another rip-off.

Someone is sending me a sample 100 ppm wateroz, and I will find out what
is in it.

Just to refresh the memory of many of the listers, the yellow color of a
true CS is due
to the colloid' s adsorbing the blue light out of the light spectrum so
we see yellow. One cannot duplicate that with a food dye.
