Hi Silverados! I have a dog named Flame (13 pound Italian greyhound, fawn colored, looks like a little deer...) When I got her three years ago (she is nine, now) her front bottom teeth were bad. I couldn't understand how anyone could let that happen. The vet gave her anesthesia, cleaned all the teeth, removed the front teeth, and cleaned out the jawbone in front. Apparently there was some problem with the anesthesia because she is a sighthound. (This was a very good vet, too...)
Well, three years later, I have been very ill myself, and self-absorbed, and Flame has been the sweetest dog anyone could want. But I haven't been looking in her mouth. Until last week. When I did, I was/am horrified and mortified. Some of her back teeth have big big rocklike deposits and have come loose...it looks like the deposits at the gumline pushed them loose. I am trying all kinds of different things where the teeth are loose. GFSE, C.Silver, packing the area with Pascalite clay. Been doing it for three days or so, so far, no change. Does anyone have any ideas? Is there anything that can dissolve those deposits? The thought of her going through anesthesia again because of my negligence is...whew...not good. Someone did write to me about their vet who does dental work just giving the animal Valium. I am going to check around for a vet who does. But meanwhile, suggestions much appreciated.
