I think one would need to keep safety in mind for this. A car battery can put 
out
over 1,000 amps if shorted, so if the electrodes accidently shorted out, the
electodes and wire would likely be vaporized.  One time I accidently dropped a
screw driver and it landed across the terminals of a car batter and the entire
shaft of the screwdriver was immediately vaporized.  I was blinded and deaf for
several minutes after that from the flash and bang.

Be sure to put a limiting resistor in series with the wire and fuse it as well.
