I have a bald spot from a reaction to a metal barrette- probably nickel or chrome, cheap metal from china. It did not grow back, but when I stopped using the barette it stopped getting bigger.

Hormones play into the hair thickness for women, and I have heard that progesterone may be part of it, if I remember correctly. I have a couple of books by Dr John Lee on it, and maybe that is where I read that.

My own theory, which I offer for free, and is probably worth that much, is the alopecia looks to me like a fungal infection that gets worse when the body is under stress, much like an ulcer which is caused by infection, but gets better and worse with stress. Definitely NOT caused by stress, but exacerbated by it.

Many fungal infections behave that way, and if the body is under attack by many things at once, it is hard to maintain healthy function.

I hope it grows back fast- it is traumatic for women to lose hair like that. best wishes,

kathryn

My wife has suddenly developed this in two spots on the back of her head. This is "spot baldness" not general thinning or overall baldness. The areas in question do not appear to be inflamed. We noticed the first one about two weeks ago, and the second just yesterday. The odd thing is that both places appear to have new fine hairs growing in them. They are not truly bald, it appears the old hair fell out and new grew right back in, but right now it's
very fine so it looks like a bald spot.....
