I don't know what "iodine tincture" contains that is sold in the store. You would have to read the ingredients. Lugol's Iodine contains Potassium Iodide and Iodine and distilled water and it is apparently the Potassium Iodide in it that helps make it more highly absorbable. Also when you buy iodine in the store, like hydrogen peroxide that isn't meant to be taken internally (unless you buy the 35% food grade to be diluted) perhaps there is something in there that is not meant to be taken internally and it might have other stuff in it? If it is for cuts and stuff like that, like the Betaine they use to cleanse wounds, I wouldn't be drinking that. So bottom line you have to read labels and know what they mean. Then make sure there are no stabilizers and all kinds of things in there. Doris
