To everyone who responded, thanks so much.  I will pass the info on to my
friends about the solar stills, the British Bakerfield, and that they can
use their battery cs generator in a pinch.  (like when they're off at some
remote village visiting)  Thanks for the personal encouragement and Larry,
your statement about "making cs overly complicated to improve on something
..we don't really know much about" freed me!
I've been struggling for 2 months (before I got on this wonderful site) to
get questions answered about salt, heating water, spacing of wires, ppm,
etc. and the bottom line is, what I've been making works and is, by
everyone's standards, not dangerous. 
Reid, thanks for taking time to help me (and others).  Your rewards are
great.  I hope I become knowledgable ? enough some day to help others on
this site.

Let me make sure you're all saying this before I go.  If I took my battery
generator camping, after running a batch of the creek water (that's been
declared unsafe) with a drop of salt water,  and letting it sit for awhile,
it will be safe to drink.  Right?
