I planted mine from November to February, anytime it was dry enough.
If they are container grown, they can be planted any day of the year.
as it is soo hot in the sumer the young plant has a hart time .
Sounds like they were not pruned properly.
Most people refuse to prune the small plants. A total disaster.
My sister planted some this year. I told her to prune them. She
refused to do it.
Most even leave the 2 or 3 berries on the plant.
That is not the way to do it.
Pruning stimulates growth, does not handicap it.
Some people seem to have emotions and feelings about the plants, just
like animals.
They simply will not discipline them.
Not to mention growth retarding hormones made by some plants under
some conditions.
Virtually any tree, or bush you plant, prune the critter right then
and there.
Not tomorrow, not next week or not next month.
And you should know the difference in a flower bud and a vegetative
bud. That is important to do the pruning right.
Nothing to any of it, all in a days work. <grin>
