Recently I ran into a man I went to school with. He was always a thin tall man, but he is like a skeleton now, balding, slurring his speech, and walking with a cane. He teeth look huge because his head is like a skull. He has CIDP which started 3 yrs ago after an elbow replacement type surgery. He woke from the surgery screaming in burning pain. He said his nerves are burning up. The doctor referred him to a pain specialist and he has been living on an oxycontin patch for 3 yrs with other drugs from time to time. He's been to four other doctors who cannot explain why he contracted this following surgery. One doctor in NY tested him after the surgery and found all his organs and blood work were in good condition. That doctor said the surgery definitely caused this disease since he did not have any symptoms before. The pain specialist took him to two different lawyers to see if he could bring a case against the surgeon who referred him. Both lawyers said there is no way to prove that he got this from surgery.
Does anyone have information on CIDP. I read there is an expensive 5 hr treatment costing up to $10K for infusion of donor blood that is specially prepared. Thanks, Jess
