One comment: the article claims prices of $1,000-$1,300 for a
store-bought device. Those prices are due to market restrictions,
methinks. Good units are available in Japan for under $500, sometimes
under $300 when on sale. It's a shame the prices elsewhere are so
high. Good, compact counter-top units that are well-designed, safe,
easy-to-use, and very reliable (mine has worked fine for a decade)
would be a real boon to consumers in most developed countries.
