Dear Susan, The diagram of the simple CS maker design I sent to the list last time had to be downloaded. Because it didn't get to you, I reproduced it on screen to make it easier, but the diagram does suffer through the translation into typeface. I hope it is easy to see how the batteries simply hook one to the other: one upside down, hooking to one node of each of two upright batteries. (They can only hook on one way.) On the side of each upright battery, then, is a free node, to which the alligator clips (represented by < ) are hooked. The electrical wires then simply go to the silver wires, and hook on to each one by alligator clip.
Here are further specs I collected from helpful silver listers:
Silver wires should be spaced 1 1/2" apart, and about 1" from the side of the
glass. (A two cup measuring cup has just the right size opening for this.)
Silver wires should be covered by distilled water 3 1/2"
