I thought salt in CS made silver chloride and that was what made people turn blue?

Even distilled water can make the eye uncomfortable. If you mix just enough salt in it to make it a saline solution, it will be less of a problem. However all the ionic portion over about .8 or so ppm will settle out, but the colloidal portion will be untouched.
