Blood Agar is one of several common growth media to cultivate organisms
in labs, generally red in color. It can be bought preplated, or the lab
can make it. Generally labs buy it preplated to save time. The organisms
are applied to the surface of the growth medium in the plate and then
placed in an incubator...
It depends on the organisms you want to cultivate as to which media is
used, and whether it's aerobic or anaerobic. Some organisms like blood
agar, and some like other types of media.
