Hi G,

I am certainly no expert in nebulizers but was recently in the same quandry
that you seem to be in now...wondering what type of nebulizer to use for the
best effect. I'll share with you some of what I learned.

The list "knowledgeables" provided advice that an oxygen nebulizer would be
best (and possibly cheapest if you make your own), an ultrasonic model such as
one made by Omron would be a good second choice and any old nebulizer would be
much better than none.

If I understand correctly, the first and second devices mentioned have a finer
mist of smaller droplets which allows deeper penetration into the lower areas
of the lungs. There may be more to it than this as well. Someone else might be
able to fill in some blanks here....

Having said all this I opted, at least for now, to get the cheaper option, the
Omron NE-C25 from Quick Medical, which is a basic compressor type nebulizer. I
got it in 3 days and proceeded to use it when I came down with pneumonia in
April, quite likely related to Swine Flu, and to make a long story short(er)
this nebulizer saved my bacon and did a wonderful job using only 10 ppm. CS
four times daily with 5 or 6 ml. each time.

A host of other "good" remedies hardly did a thing for me. No doubt, the more
experienced list members already know what I then found out...that CS beats the
pants off anything else if it can be delivered to the site of infection
effectively.

It seemed to me that my el cheapo nebulizer worked very well for my personal
situation. Still, I'd like to find time to make the oxygen nebulizer in the
future.

Visit this site for more info. and see the link at the bottom of the page for
the tutorial for building your own oxygen nebulizer if this interests you:

This is merely shared research, of course,
and not to be construed as medical advice, which is never given on this list.

Blessings,

Peter

Thank you acmeair and all who have answered. I now know a humidifier must be
ULTRASONIC. If I do indeed decide to buy a nebulizer----MUST IT BE
ULTRASONIC????
I already have a compressor type nebulizer what is the difference in delivery
of CS to the lungs?

from the info available at the time, i did not see the need to buy a
nebulizer, when all the available info on a "ultrasonic" humidifier was so
positive. i've used mine for about 3-4 years, with good results. i have no
info on nebulizers. jim

Thanks so much for the info. How about a nebulizer? Does it also have to
be ultrasonic?

you can use a humidifier, but to get the silver ions to stay in the mist,
the humidifier has to be "ultrasonic". jim
