Could be. Animals do seem to know what helps them. Maybe if they don't
need it, they don't take it.

One of my dogs is a 'found' dog. When she came here she had these sores on
her legs, all up and down. I took her to the vet to get checked and he said
it was probably some grass type allergy and there was nothing we could do
about it. I tried everything--all my herbs, salves, etc--all externally of
course, thinking "grass allergy" This was bordering on the winter. So all
winter long I'd put my salves on her, the spots would clear and then come
right back in a different leg area. We are in south Texas so we have grass
all winter.

Then--spring came. We have a short period of time here when the healing
weeds grow (due to the heat that sets in quickly, most of these only last a
few weeks). I was out with her and I noticed that she was very carefully
picking some weed out of a big group of weeds. I went and looked and--it
was cleaver! Cleaver has fine hairs that stick to everything, hence the
name cleave(r), and when it grows with other weeds it just balls them all up
But she was specifically picking those out to eat.

I thought--of course! Cleavers are a great lymph cleaner. So I pulled
handfuls, chopped them and put them in her food in bigger amounts than she'd
get standing there trying to pull one stalk off the pile of weeds.

Within 2 weeks her legs were completely clear, and I hadn't put a thing on
them! With the extra cleavers in her food and water (as tea which she
drank) and a change in diet, there were never any more sores.

So I do try to pay attention to what they take. Because none of the cats
like the CS in the water I didn't try to force them to take it--although it
could also be that my cats are just too picky. Lol
