Being the hormone gal that I am, I'll put in my 2 cents as well! ADD/ADHD is typically (from a hormone standpoint) from low cortisol (can also be known as adrenal fatigue). I have an adpoted son with ADHD and a birthded son that seems to have ADHD at times. I had both of their cortisol levels tested and they both had only 1 or 2 detectibe levels, and those were at the bottom of the range, well below 'normal'.
Most of the supplements that have been suggested are adrenal and thyroid supportive, and I take a lot of them myself! It just takes a long time for the body to straighten itself out via supplements. That's why I take the hormone itself that I am deficient in. Most 'autoimmune' diseases have a pathogen as a cause. Be it fungal, bacterial, viral or whatever. I found a video that explains it really well... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RTiWfyrNBwA It talks about Lyme disease in the video, but I feel since Lyme is a bacteria, that it applies to at least other bacteria, if not all other 'critters'. All stress on the body (be it illness of any kind, horrible job or marriage, weddings, babies, infection, autoimmune disease) is dealt with the same way. Ultimately it is cortisol that is disrupted, either in producing too much or too little. Too much in the beginning, then after being too stressed, it produces too little. http://www.drlam.com/articles/adrenal_fatigue.asp This site explains this process very well. LDN is fantastic for helping the body reboot the immune system/response and get those hormones in order. But I do think directly addressing the hormone deficiencies by taking the missing hormones is the fastest/easiest way to get back on track. That coupled with LDN will give a 1-2 punch. Also, if there is any pathogen involved, using your choice of natural or allopathic antibiotics/antivirals/antiparasitics/etc. will also help. That's just my 2 cents! Many people take it for prevention of any auto immune or degenerative disease, Cancer, Flu, Colds, Allergies. Among other effects it raises endorphin and enkephaline levels up to 300%. This balances the immune system. Some people have low endorphin levels and are thought to be more susceptible to Cancer and other diseases as well as depression. It's a very inexpensive drug, and tested safe at 10X the dosage used in low dose therapy. Many order it from www.alldaychemist.com without an Rx.
