I've had several for several years and have not had one break or burn out. I buy a fixture locally that is a metal hood with a crossbar and ceramic socket (a must because of the heat). I try to have the crossbar in touch with my body, with cotton cloth in between, no synthetics since they can melt if they should contact the emitter. It is a little tricky figuring out how to hold it where I want it. I heat the spot for as long as I can, results have been even miraculous, as once when I had bad neck pains when barely moving my head with numbing sensations, and I lay with the emitter over my neck for a couple of hours, and all pain and discomfort ceased and didn't return. I would imagine it was as though the heat relaxed the tendons and ligaments and helped them return to a normal position. The rib took a while to heal, 4 weeks for pain to cease and 8 weeks for a pulling sensation to cease.
