Almost all recommendations are for 1 tablespoon per day, not 2. Bob This,- on the post from Garnet who spoke personally to Dr. Knight--- Dr. Knight recommends " A teaspoon a day for two years is better than a cup a day for two months. { below is the post } I just talked to Dr Galen Knight who conducted the original research on DE as a metal detox. He also did the lab analysis that appears on Earth Works Health site. His opinion is that the Silica from DE is not absorbed, does not show up in hair analysis and that the health claims made as to it being a good source of Si are not valid. He is very into toxic metals. Here is an excellent article that explains a great deal about DE as a metal detox agent. And sources of metals contamination. _http://www.westonaprice.org/environmental-toxins/1447-mad-as-a-hatter.html_ (http://www.westonaprice.org/environmental-toxins/1447-mad-as-a-hatter.html) IF any silica is absorbed from DE it is very, very little and it would not be likely to be in a bioavailable form since silicon dioxide is a very stable form of silicon, essentially it is sand. So chances are that Better to increase dietary sources as mentioned in my previous post. Si is in onions, leafy greens, herbs like horse tail, oat straw and nettles are particularly high in Si. I enjoyed talking to Dr Knight about some of his other research into an immune factor Vitalethiene that he discovered as a grad student. He has continued his investigations into the importance of this substance in cancer and other degenerative conditions and how it is impacted by metal toxicity. Hence his interest in DE as a metal detoxing agent. He does caution users of DE to go slow and plan on taking it for a long time rather than using a lot of DE to detox quickly due to the risk of drawing large amounts of metals into the circulation and reexposing your organs and tissues. A teaspoon a day for two years is better than a cup a day for two months. Dr Knight's research website: _http://www.vitaletherapeutics.org/_ (http://www.vitaletherapeutics.org/)
