Surely you mean some type of mist or water vapors, not steam. If you inhale steam it will scald your nose, sinuses and lungs immediately, likely leading to death.

For something on the more gentle side, can you use steam? If you can, add some herbals to a hot steamy pot of water, sit at the table, use a towel for a tent, and just breathe it in through your nose, that might help. Maybe someone on the list can tell you which herbals to add to the water that would be best to help eliminate the infection and inflammation and soothe the pain. Or, for a more hardier remedy, you can try one drop of Lugols Iodine and one drop of DMSO in a couple ounces of saline solution. Get a saline nasal spray (OTC at most pharmacies) and use that as a container to which you would add the above. Instead of squeezing the bottle you could apply the solution with a q-tip. Hope so.
