Hi Harold,

Lew came up with this fix some time ago.  Put about an inch of hydrogen
peroxide (standard 3 1/2%) into your vessel.  Let it foam and it will remove
the silver sludge on the bottom.  After it stops foaming, screw the lid on
and lay the jar on its side.  This will then allow the peroxide to react
with the plating on the side of the vessel.  Then roll it an eighth turn or
so and let it work again.  Repeat until you have completely rolled the jar
over.  The jar should then be washed and rinsed with distilled water.
