I believe you do have a little room to play with here. The sludge in the tank's filtration system is pretty well solid, and as such we know that CS loses a lot of effectiveness inside stuff like this, ie. in your intestines or in a gel. Thus I think it is likely that one can use an amount that would be theraputic, yet not interfere with the bio-filter significantly. It is just a matter of amount, not uncommom in medicine, where toxic products are often given to a patient in moderation to help something, yet more of it would kill them, ie. chemo, quinine, strictnine, even asprin.
