Dear Jolly, I have used a copy of Dr Christopher's Eyebright remedy, which I make, for 6 mths now and it is really is marvellous. Dr Schultz's remedy is the same with the addition of rue, mullen and fennel, and the loss of bayberry.
I too used to mix it with CS, but found it more effective when mixed with cold d. water. I think the CS reacts with some of the extracts in the formula negating some of the usefulness of both. Now I rarely use CS in my eyes, but when I do I separate the applications. If you are concerned with the antiseptic effect of the eye formula, the Golden Seal and especially the Rue should allay your fears. All those concerned with protecting and perhaps repairing their eyes should be taking Alpha Lipoic Acid 50mg, three times a day on an empty stomach. Indeed if there is one supplement that all should take it is this. Lipoic acid has the ability to regenerate Vit C and E and most importantly regenerate and cause the expression of Glutathonine in the cells, which is the eyes only means of ridding itself of toxins and radicals. Don't worry about the alcohol, 2 drops in 20 - 30ml will not cause problems, I believe. Good luck in your educational endeavours, you are lucky to have your chemistry degree under your belt, I am struggling with my first formal instruction on organic chemistry... Phew!
