Well the action is rather slow.  If you mix and use them it should be fine.
If you intend to mix them then store them for a day or more, than the bicarb
is necessary to neutralize the acid.  Bicarb is what the gall bladder
produces to neutralize the acid from the stomach, so although it is a
chemical, it should not be a problem.

If they are alkaline, then that may be the solution you are looking for.
