Although MSM occurs naturally as an organic sulfur compund, it occurs in
such small quantities as to be commerically impractical to extract. The
chemically identical substance that you buy in the health food stores is
chemically created by using a catalyst to add an extra oxygen atom to
Dimethylsulphoxide - DMSO. The resultant chemical is Dimethylsulphone or
Methylsulphonylmethane (exactly identical - just different ways of
expressing the compound) popularly called MSM. DMSO is a liquid and MSM is
a solid. The characteristics of each are NOT identical - they are two
entirely different substances with different uses and properties, just as an
extra oxygen atom to a water molecule makes hydrogen peroxide -- which ain't
water, folks! Take it from me, MSM is GOOODDDD stuff! Been taking it for
over 20 years ever since Dr. Stanley Jacobs at Oregon Health Sciences
University "put me on " to it.
