> What is your private e-mail?

Hi everyone! Time for a little e-mail tutorial! <GRIN>

We see it all the time on mailing lists like this one -- folks asking
for one another's e-mail addresses. Did you know that every e-mail
message already comes with the address of the sender in it?

What's happened, of course, is that Microsoft and other software
vendors try to "protect" us from the technical details by hiding all
the header information that's at the top of every e-mail message. So
folks see only a name, but no e-mail address, at the top of the
message window.

This looks really strange to those of us using e-mail software that
shows us the headers, I tell you!! <grin>

In Microsoft Outlook Express you typically click on messages in a list
that shows the Subject, Sender's name, date, etc. The message shows up
in what they call a "preview" frame in part of the Outlook Express
window, with the name of the sender and the subject in the gray bar
above the text window.

If instead you *double click* on the message in the list, the message
opens up in its own separate window, with From: Date: To: and Subject:
fields above the text window. Double click on the person's name in the
>From field and it will bring up a multi-tabbed dialog box.

One of the first things they show you ***is the person's e-mail
address!!!*** In fact, the address is "live" so that you can highlight
it with your mouse and cut and paste it into the To: field of a new
message.

E-mail software other than Outlook Express will be different, of
course, but I hope this example will encourage you to poke around a bit
to discover where they've hidden all the good stuff in *your* program!

If you need help, just ask! Tell us what software you're using, and
hopefully somebody will be able to help you...

You have surmounted any number of challenges just to get a computer,
get online, and start browsing the web and using e-mail. You can
rightfully be proud of yourself! As you learn a few more tricks of the
trade like this, it will only add to the power your efforts have
already gained for you.

We now return you to your regularly scheduled silver list!

Be well,

Mike D.
