Don't trust a 24 K gold necklace. First it is were truely 24 K, it would fall apart, pure gold is just too soft. Dateline did a show a few years back if I remember right were many jewelry products were labeled as much higher carat than they really were. Also many product that indicated 24 K were simply plated with gold, so once that is gone you have the base metal exposed.
You might be able to use gold maple leaves and philharmonics though. These pure gold coins are availabe in .1 and .25 oz sizes for about $270 per ounce.
