I'm sorry. I am assuming this is common knowledge, which isn't fair. The
Materia Medica is a book listing all symptoms and the homeopathic remedies
that are helpful for those symptoms. It is divided into general areas--body
parts and/or general body systems. This is what I use to decide what remedy
might be useful. I'm sure homeopathic doctors refer to it regularly, but
their understanding of homeopathy is much more complex than mine. You can
usually find a Materia Medica in most health food stores in the U.S. Not
sure about elsewhere. I know in India they are very common and expect it
isn't hard to find them in Europe either.
With homeopathy, the personality of the patient is of greatest importance.
So one remedy might work for a very outgoing, cheerful, buoyant person and
not work at all for another who is introverted and tends towards...hm...a
touch of fearfulness or paranoia or tearfulness. It is important to
understand that the emotional character of the person who is being treated
is just as important as the physical symptoms. Hope that helps.
