Evening Bricky,
What size resistor and led? I presently use 30VDC with a resistor
limiting the output to about 3.5 ma. I tried the 3X9 batteries and the
ate up my silver rods in no time without using a limiting resistor.
I use a 6.7 K with my 52 volt phone gen. I don't remember the exact
size that works with the 27 to 30 volt units,
but I think it is close to the same. 4, 5, or 6 K should be fine with 30 vdc.
Size of the LED is..... a standard sized one. Don't get a blinking
LED. They require more current flow and will not work in a CS circuit.
I like green for my choice of colors.
As has been stated before, try to get a multi-meter and check the
current. One does not need to be guessing at any of this when it is so
easy and economical to work with specifics. After all, 16 oz of CS is
worth more than the multi meter will cost.
