Taking cayenne that way is, literally, an ordeal-by-fire. Try first mixing-in just enough water to make a fairly stiff paste in the bottom of a cup. Place it on the edge of a teaspoon, and then wash it down quickly with a large glass of water. Might take a bit of practice to avoid getting the gob stuck in the throat, but once mastered, gain without pain! Many people can develop upset stomach with cayenne use - a useful tip is to make up a mix of say 50% cayenne, 25% ginger, 25% horseradish (all as powder). Horseradish can be dropped if sinus is not a problem. Happy perspiring!
