Re: CS>OT - Irregardless - was CS>A Rose is a Rose Really, Jack,
This Rose is a Rose thread was really just a nice way of saying "shut up, stop your ridiculous argument about the usage of the word "AMPERAGE" irregardless of whether it's a word or not. Everyone knows what it means, anyhow." (I used those words on purpose, by the way.) Well, I guess you didn't get it... Of course, no need to reply... Please take note. Jack Re: CS>OT - Irregardless - was CS>A Rose is a Rose ascottsil...@aol.com5/23/03 6:36 PM Usage Note: Irregardless is a word that many mistakenly believe to be correct usage in formal style, when in fact it is used chiefly in nonstandard speech or casual writing. Coined in the United States in the early 20th century, it has met with a blizzard o f condemnation for being an improper yoking of irrespective and regardless a nd for the logical absurdity of combining the negative ir- prefix and -less suffix in a single term. Although one might reasonably argue that it is no d ifferent from words with redundant affixes like debone and unravel, it has b een considered a blunder for decades and will probably continue to be so.
