As an impressionable young boy, I read with great relish a most lurid
anti-drug comic book detailing the suffering and morbid decline of a
fictional heroin addict, who started with "snorting," proceeded to "skin
popping," and ended up "mainlining," the last of which, of course, is
more-or-less the method of IV CS use mentioned by some persons on this
list. IAW, whether one uses a syringe of an IV drip, the CS goes
directly into the bloodstream.

I have never heard of "skin popping" anywhere since that time, but this
is obviously a preliminary method of using heroin that avoids the
dangers of direct injection. Addicts needing the "rush" of mainlining
give up this method.

Thinking about the postings on this list, I can not help but wonder
whether someone seriously needing sustained quantities of CS for some
life threatening disorder might not make good use of "skin popping."
For a non-medical professional, it might be the safest way of getting CS
directly into the bloodstream.

This is sheer speculation and perhaps a bit kooky, but in some
circumstances, this idea might be worth exploring. I am not a
clinician or professional scientist; perhaps someone who is can
enlighten us about subcutaneous injections . . . .
