It's obvious that electronic devices work by some sort of magic. I mean, ask your mother, ask your neighbor, ask Mike Tyson how an electronic device works. No doubt you will realize after talking to them that they operate by magic.
Now I, and many others, have discerned by dint of observation that the magical quality by which they operate is "smoke". Nine times out of ten, if you damage an electronic circuit, you will let the smoke out. If enough smoke is let out, it will not work again. If you look closely at the component, it will usually be cracked and there will be a residue of soot in the vicinity of the crack. It is usually not possible to put the smoke back in. There is some interaction of this quality with the electrical energy that is used to initiate it's activity. One may damage an electronic circuit mechanically and no smoke will come out until the electro motive force is applied, but when it is, you will usually be able to see the smoke escaping. You should be able to demonstrate this to yourself. Open up your computer console, turn on the power switch and poke around inside it with a large screwdriver. You will soon notice a cloud of smoke (usually accompanied by a snapping sound) rising up from your computer. I doubt that it will work at all after that. As to how an electro magnetic pulse would cause the smoke to be released from an electronic circuit is not clear. It probably causes severe stresses in the case or shell of an electronic component, cracking them open and thereby releasing the smoke. Now, as far as people go... yes, if you apply a torch or a fire to them it is possible to get them to burn and possibly even to cause smoke to rise from them. However, this is due to the external application of fire and not from any internal operating quality of the organisms. It is difficult to imaging that something made up of mostly water will work by smoke. No doubt humans etc. work by something even more subtle and refined than smoke. Biological entities are fueled for the most part on food, water, and air. If you apply food, water, and air to them and then cause them to expire, nine times out of ten you will not see smoke escaping from them unless an external heat is applied, so I would conclude that no, humans and animals in general do not work by smoke. I mean, you can cut them, stab them, choke them, squash them, shoot them, grate them. They will stop working, but they will not release smoke. Even adding food, water, or air to them will not cause them to release smoke so I have to conclude that they don't run on smoke.
