Bob, I actually have a lot of respect for the people that designed and built vacuum tubes. And the difficulty in physically making them is mind boggling.
I understand that anyone that broadcasts high power still uses tubes to get the required power levels. I heard about some that were actually water cooled - internally, with deionized water!
