Arthur Thomas text, Colloid Chemistry (1934) mentions two methods of converting solutions of ionic silver into colloidal silver.
1) Reduction of ionic silver into neutral particulate by bubbling hydrogen gas through the solution. 2) Reduction of ionic silver into neutral particulate by exposing the solution to UV. Neither of these methods require the mild protein stabilizer. Matthew
