Try lindows.com They have a free trial that runs from a disk. You don't even have to put it on your hard drive. I use the installed version and don't have to worry about infection accept a virus can be passed on even if it doesn't effect my computer. There is a virus program you can get to keep that from happening.

Hi Garmet, I just tried Fedora.redhat.com and can't get the page to open, Can you send me the link? I went to redhat.com and the price is $179.00. Where can I download a free Linux OS. I had Knoppix on disk but gave it away because it was in German and I couldn't read it.

Just an FYI to the list members, take a look at Fedora Core 1, or
Knoppix to avoid all virus risks. Your machine can not be infected
period if you are running on a unix based Operating system.

Knoppix can be run off the CD rom so you can keep your Windows OS until
you are sure you want to replace it.

Fedora.redhat.com provides the free OS plus free manuals. We just loaded
for a 14 yo who has never used Unix / Linux OS and he is having no
    problem navigating.

Fedora is easier than Windows to load and configure. And it is free! And
it is bullet proof when it comes to email viruses. More than you can say
    for Windows.

According to Forbes Magazine a week ago, a survey they recently conduted
indicated that 45% of businesses are considering dumping Windows and
using a Linux / Unix OS.
