Dear Debbie, I'm sure either technique will work. Rinsing while they're wet should get any loose fluffy stuff off... but you'd have to rinse them in distilled water to avoid contamination. All I ever do is wipe them down with a paper napkin. Kleenex (facial tissue) leaves a LOT of lint that always seems to contaminate the next batch. Paper towel seems like overkill and wasteful. Napkins, however, seem just robust enough and don't leave any lint. The positive electrode does not need to be rubbed so hard it ends up shiny, if all you're doing is wiping it down with a napkin. The dark color is microscopic surface roughness that actually helps speed production later. However, as long as you don't contaminate things, any of these methods will be okay.
