The last 4 batteries I fried were 12 V, in series for my well pumps. They
had no LV cutoff, and ran a piston boost pump until it would turn about
once in a minute.

NEVER, HOWEVER TEMPORARILY, HOOK UP A BATTERY TO A LOAD WITHOUT A LVD.

He says, in sad retrospect.

Unfortunately, these are sealed gel batteries. I don't know how to get the
EDTA into the gel. I think that procedure is for sulfated batteries
anyway...?

If you are not already aware of it, you might be interested to know that
there is an article or two on the web which indicate that sulfated
lead/acid batteries can be rejuvenated with EDTA. Yes, the same
chemical that is used for chelation of heavy metals in people.

I don't remember the precise details but I remember that it can be quite
effective although a messy process. Bulk EDTA is available for a very
low price. (I don't know if this is pure enough to use in people, but
was fine for the batteries.)
