No plastic as a storage container is a myth that came with the 'use salt' to make it and the 'use colored glass' to keep it myths. Just another thing that people repeat endlessly without checking it out to be true. If you DO use salt to make it....yes, use colored glass to keep it, but, you didn't make "IT". You made silver chloride which is in fact light sensitive while actual EIS/ CS isn't.

Since, in the past, [and still to this day] people used the wrong process and weren't making what they thought they were, it's not a wonder that some wrong conclusions were drawn to explain what they were seeing happening. No, plastic doesn't neutralize ions and make the silver go dark and drop out. [Hydroxyl anions neutralize ions and the silver doesn't drop out]

 Magnetic fields, phase of the moon...one can wonder about all that now.
