Dear Fello Lister's,
Not to try to keep such a tragedy on the forefront of the topics, but i
do want to share what i was able to see on the animal planet documentaries this
week. So many things pass us by until it is too late to really see what it was,
I'm afraid our dear Steve E. was one.
He operated a zoo with his family in Australia, and most of his funds
went to purchasing lands that were inline to be used commercially or otherwise,
and would have taken the homes from many wild animals, he invested large
portions of his own monies earned from all the hard work done on t.v. and in
the zoo, and these lands are now wildlife preserves. He was not the type to
desire riches like some of us do when we come into money, rather he held a love
of wildlife that was true to the end.
The only thing that came before his love of animals, was his love of
family. He was a very loving son to a mother that was as involved as he was
until her death, and his father and brothers still participated in the family
zoo. He was the father of 2 and a very loving devoted father, you should have
seen the love his daughter displayed and spoke of for him. They were all very
close and loving, and all big, big conservationists.
As to anyones opinions that he was cruel, he had to manhandle extremely
dangerous animals, and the entire time I viewed his and others handling in his
presence, he was continually coaching them to be cautious, not to hurt them, to
remove the ropes<when they were necesary> from certain spots so they could rope
a safer area, to get attention for animals that had hurt one another when they
were attempting to set up pairs in pens at the zoo, etc. <and remember, they
can easily kill men anytime, croc's are very large and dangerous animals>
As well, would the animal planet be so foolish as to represent someone
who was mistreating animals?? And I guarantee, if he had been, there would not
be so large a love, nor such a mourning for his passing in Australia.
In short merriams said it best..<the dictionary> conservation:
1 : a careful preservation and protection of something; especially : planned
management of a natural resource to prevent exploitation, destruction, or
neglect.

and I saw with my own eyes, he did it very well, many animals in Australia
will suffer for his loss, I pray the family can continue with his work, if not
completely, then to maintain what was already started, God bless them to be
able to, we have lost enough wildlife to our ignorant ways as it is.
                                                                 Godspeed all,
Lisa
p.s.for those interested in the film i saw about him and the family and thier
business',
it was the june,20,2005 airing on animal planet of the croc hunter. They
answered many questions about the man and his family.

p.p.s. Marshalee, get the facts next time.

Sorry, but I won`t miss him at all.
He was annoying, and not very entertaining.
It really irked me at how he made his living by irritating animals.
He irritated the wrong one this time...
I do feel sorry for his family.
