It's just a convenient place to distribute, track issues, etc.

Well, it does have license implications as these sites usually require
you to pick 1 of N predefined licenses for the projects that they
host.

Then that could be a dealbreaker. Is it really proposed here that the license changes? I must have missed that part. Besides it is a decision for the copyright holder alone.
