G'day Jim -
As many on this list know, creating definitive legal agreement(s),
policies and procedures takes much longer than anybody expects or hopes.
This can be even more frustrating and time-consuming when one party's
business structure is changing (i.e. EMC). But the end goal has not
changed - creating a convenient, accessible way to access DG legacy
software for personal educational, non-commercial purposes.
If there is a compelling, irrational interest ;-) on an individual basis
for running DG software 'in the cloud', please contact me off-list...

Greetings Bruce,
Well, 4 years have gone by since I seriously poked at the idea of collaborating
with other members of the SimH discussion group to develop a DG MV-series
emulator.
I poked around at your company's website and learned that you guys had already
developed one some 12 years ago: your eMV software!
My goal is to run a MV system again as OP and write programs loaded with system
calls to my heart's content! No flavor of UNIX matches up to the capabilities
of AOS/VS II!
My questions initially are few:
What is the cost of a license for your eMV/Enterprise edition? My thought is to
allow hobbyists to be able to login to play around with the O/S and writing
their own programs, if feasible.
What is EMC's current position on licensing out new copies of (the old) O/S's,
languages, etc?
Thanks so much for your help!

G'day Jim (and the rest of the SimH group) -
Although legacy software legal agreements sometime take [much] longer
than anybody anticipates, I expect the outstanding items to be addressed
this year. I will post information on this e.group as it becomes
definitive...

Dear Mr. Ray,
Interest has resurfaced (again) in developing a Simh DG emulator to run
AOS/VS (II) and related software.
I'm interested in approaching this project, but realize the futility of
developing an emulator for which there's no software to run on it.
I located a Simh post of yours from 2004 in which you discuss EMC's
dogged position against releasing Data General software to the
educational/hobbyist market.
Do you have any current information as to EMC's position on this matter?
Thank you for your help.
