That google response isn't quite right. You didn't say what version of ubuntu. I'm running 18.04.1 LTS, and sys/cdefs.h is at /usr/include/x86_64-linux-gnu/sys/cdefs.h. The package manager tells me that it's part of the libc6-dev:amd64 package: % dpkg -S /usr/include/x86_64-linux-gnu/sys/cdefs.h libc6-dev:amd64: /usr/include/x86_64-linux-gnu/sys/cdefs.h
